black sheet

 White sheet

Guitar
Fairy Lights
Powder Paint

23) Casting

Alan Hunte (lead male role) : I chose alan for this role because he is a good dancer and actor because he does A level dance and drama. His character fits the role extremely well and he has danced with alice Dymova the big sisters part before and so the connection between is strong and they will dance very well together.

Alice Dymova (lead girl role, The bigger sister): I chose Alice for this role because she has such a strong dancing connection with Alan and just like alan has an a level in dance and drama which means she fits the part perfectly. Her personality is very strong and she gives off a strong spark to everyone she meets.

Elita Robertson (lead girl role, little sister): I chose Elita as she has the same long blond hair as Alice and they look like sisters. She also a very talented dancer and takes drama GCSE.

Shantanu Amin (DJ): I chose Shantanu as my DJ as he is very experienced DJ and often spends his time DJ-ing during school discos. This means that when I film him he wont have to get out of his comfort zone and will look very real because he is just doing what he usually does.

Mary Gledson (Alices friend): During the disco alice is dancing with another person mary is going to be this person during the disco. I have chosen her because she is naturally a good friends of alice and they spend a lot of time during discos dancing with each other so it wont be abnormal for that to happen.

18) Story Plan

My video starts off with a boy playing a guitar with a black background a different lights being shined towards him this is for the beginning of the song then when the vocals start the scene switches towards the beach where the girl wearing a pink short dress is hopping around being followed by her little sister who looks up at her big sister as a role model then when the chorus starts we go back to the boy who is singing then we have the girls dancing in front of a white screen, twisting and around making her dress flow with her. Then the big sister does a dance routine with the boy which involves a lot of lifts. then the main chorus is again sung by the boy by the black background the there is a flash back from when the girls were younger and they were packing their backpacks to travel then there is a club scene where the big sister is dancing and then there is a scene where the little sister runs through the woods with fairy lights rapped around her then they go back to the white screen and they throw powder paint around having fun together then there is another club scene and the next part is when the sisters jump into each others arms on the beach then when the chorus appears its not just the boy lip synching its also the big sister and the little sister lip-synching 1 line of the chorus. Then the 2 girls are placed behind a black back drop with fairly lights wrapped around them then the last bit for the boy is when he sings "didn't know I was young" and then the bit of the girls running across the beach is repeated but with faster shots and at the end it is fair-lights.

14) My perfect audience member

My perfect audience member is a combination between a Rahr and Trendy:

Rahr's: A couple of words to describe a rahr would be Barbour, Hollister, experience seeker, Aspirant, Heritage Brands, Jack wills, Made in chelsea and Hunters. A Rahr could be defined by their posh accent, private education, exclusive social life and love for specific designer brands. The real Rah lifestyle is not at all unusual, It is about pub lunches in the country, rugby and skiing, drinking games, chart music and cheesy pop, gap yahs and chilling out in Ugg boots and Jack Wills tracksuit bottoms.

A very good example of a Rahr is Prince Harry:

Trendies: A couple of words to describe a trendy are eBay, Fashion, Festivals, Harry Styles, Pinterest, Style, T4, topshop, Trendies, urban outfitters and vintage. Trendies are motivated by the current trends, street for inspirations, celebrities and authoritative media brands for inspiration on music and fashion. Its all about finding out what the next big style before it becomes mainstream. Fashion is the trendys first love, but music is next in line - especially picking up the latest mixes online to flaunt on social media on their blog. Instagram, Tumblr, Youtube, Mix-cloud is very important for a trendy as that is the way they represent themselves.

A very good example of a Trendy is

I pictured my friend Alice Kirkness in various different outfits as I think she is the perfect combinations between a Trendy and a Rahr. This is because she wears alot of Hollister, river island, jack will, urban outfitters. She spends a lot of her time messaging her friends on her Iphone 4S and internet shops of ASOS and Ebay. She drives around in her red mini with the union jack on the roof this pretty much sums her up as the perfect rahr/trendy.

This type of person would be perfect for in my music video 'wake me up' as they are not too crazy and most people can relate to them but at the same time theres a lot of different ways you can go. If you dress the person up casually it could be a very realistic scene in the video or if she was dressed up in a long dress like in the second picture she looks quite fairly like and if you put a cool back round behind it, it could end up looking very abstract.

13) Audience Research

What attracts people to the music they listen too?

Everyone has a very specific opinion, this is very much due to the type of person you are and what kind of music you are into also another very important aspect is the mood you are in for example if you are in a romantic mood you will most likely listen to love songs. I went out into my local environment and asked young adults about what attracts them to music videos and what puts them off, I also asked them if a good music video will ensure that they like the music more? This research is extremely useful to me because then i can produce a music video that not only i like but that my target audience likes.

11) Key Shots

I used the music video for applause by lady gaga because i like the weird and crazy aspect it has and would like to add some of it into my music video.
1. The first shot is an extreme close up of Lady Gaga's face while she is lip syncing. This shot can be really effective if your lip syncing is good. A close up is always effective because it means that the emotions the person is betraying on their face is shown to the audience watching which makes the video more intense and believable.
2. The one next to that of all the faces with the purple cheek is again very effective betraying people expressions but this time the faces are duplicated doing different movements this is something i would really like to add into my video different shots appearing in the same shot to make the shot super interesting and this really would be effective because of the fast pace of my song wake me up.
3. The swan look in the 3rd image is a very particular look in this video of lady gaga she has taken this look and repeated it in most of the shots in her music video. I really like the way she has used black and white but given the make up on her face a colour to make it stand out more and so that people udnerstand the importance of the make up in the video as it is one of the main aspects of this video.
4. The 4th shot is lady gaga holding a white sheet this again is a black and white shot and very fast pace in the actual video as the songs beat is very fast. this shot is very effective because of the use of colour. The whole room is black ontop of that her whole outfit is black too and then there is this shinning black light that contrasts against the black which give it an amazing look.
5. The 5th shot again uses the swan idea as she pops out of a top hat. Again the use of black and white is used with the effect of the green top being the only bright colour in the shot. The lighting in the back is also very effective as it produces the background which looks a bit rocky and this is produces by lines of light.
6.The use of a group dance really gives the video a boost because it been her and another lady throughout the whole video and the dancing is super effective especially when its well coordinated this is another aspect I am planning to put into my music video as a good coordinated dance can be good to watch especially when there is one particular person that stand out more than the others and the back up dancers are really letting her stand out.
7. As I have said before i  this video face paint/make up is extremely important and really effective of the swan look with the while cloth she is holding around her head. The extreme make up really gives the video a nice crazy edge which is something I would like to use within a certain extent.
8. A long shot of her dancing and suddenly her whole make up image has changed in the video to a more girly but still very swan like look. I like the switch of person she makes, you know its the same person but its interesting to look at because of the difference in her make up and it feels like two different people.
9. A close up with her long blond hair and a very feminine look. I really like this look on her and this is one of my favorite shots within the whole video because of the blond and friendly look. Also its easier to relate with her because her outfit seems more believable and less odd.

12) Mood board

Mood Board
On this mood board I have thrown on pictures that come up in my head when I think about my music video with wake me up in the background. I am basing my video mostly on light so the idea of fairy lights, light tubes etc are definately things that I will be putting in my video. Also another light aspect is the sunrise which gives the shot a very warm feeling. Then the club scene is something very common in electronic dance as it gives the drop in the music an extra boost. Powder paint, coardinated dancing are all other aspects of my video.

Ellie Goulding - Burn

In the Music video Burn with Ellie Goudling cinematography, Editing, sound and miss-en-scene are very important.

Cinematography is the way shots are shot so low shots, high shots and how important they are in creating the scene in the video. In the fist couple of second before we see Ellie Goulding we see a close up of he shoes as the beat of the music gets faster and creates a build up. This is a great start of the clip as we don't go straight into it we build up before the main scene starts. There are close ups of Ellie Gouldings face singing the song this is very effective as it makes the people watching this video want to sing along with the catchy song as well. There are quite a few long shots in this clip that is because the main reason for the song is the lights in the background so having a long shot with Ellie Goudling standing in the middle and then as well being able to see all the lights around her as she sings her song.

Editing is everything that is done after the video has been filmed so the different cuts between shots, and the edits on the clips them self. The shots in this clip are very much dependent on the speed of the beat during the chorus the camera is concentrated on Ellie Goulding itself however during the time between that some of the shots can create a build up by being very fast shots until the chorus. This get the audience exited for the chorus the come and creates a nice smooth feeling throughout the whole video.

The sound is the most important aspect in a music video because thats why they are made to sell the song. The sound has an important impact on the speed of the clips this is to create a smooth video that links in with the song and fits the kind of atmosphere the song is trying to create. Ellie Goulding singing with the song is also a very hard but successful technique as when people are watching and see close ups of Ellie Goulding singing her sing and smiling, having fun people will enjoy the song a lot more because they can see other people are also happy when listening to this song.

Mise-en-scene is the way people are dressed, make up and how the stage or in this case what looks like a big open airport because of the lines down on the floor. Ellie has he long blond hair down which flows with the wind and when she dances her hair moves around her because her hair is so blond it gives ling when special light effects are done. She wears different outfits depending what situation she is in, when she is in the field she is wearing shorts and comfortable clothing to be dancing around in however in the party scene she is wearing going out dresses but all her outfits don't seem to be to extreme this is a good technique to use because the audience can now relate to her more compared to some other music videos.

10) Full Textual Analysis

Don't you worry child

In this music video a lot of cinematography, Editing, sound and miss en scene was used to make this music video look better and run smoothly.

The cinematography in this video includes a couple of close ups of people in a dancing, club like looking scene their facial expressions look like they are having fun this is because the song is quite upbeat and happy so seeing close ups of peoples happy faces gives off a very happy vibe, also close ups of people mouthing the words to the song means that they are enjoying it and if you are seeing people enjoy something you start to like it as well. long zooming out shots of  light rays coming out of stadiums this is a very party effect and gives of quite a crazy atmosphere. The following shots is to show the movement throughout the video it is an example of modern day life is very fast and youngsters seem to always be on the move.

Editing in this clip is very well done there are fast cuts in between shots where the beat of the song gets faster and when it is slower there are slower cuts to show the movement of the song and to give the main part which in this case is the party scene a more crazy effect. Another great effect is the way that they can blacken out the whole scene apart from a couple of rays of light which makes the video look very colorful and fun.

Mise-en-scene is important in this video but then it is also not at the same time because most of the video is filmed in a concert scene most people are wearing casual clothing already. people are wearing colourful clothing, sunglasses just like anyone would going to a concert. They are screaming having fun and are wearing simple clothing they can easily dance in. The boys walking around are wearing stereotypical teenage boy clothing jeans that are help up with a leather belt and a leather jacket or a hoody this is done to make the targetgroup of this song be more attracted towards it.

The sound in this clip is the most important thing out of the whole thing. It is upbeat which matches the clips but at the same time. because of its fast pace beat it attract the younger generation of people and the club scenes.

7) Things to consider- costume and make up

Costume and make up is a very important aspect in my music video as it sets up the theme of the video right from the start. With my 'wake me up' music video I was planning to put in a couple of close ups of the person singing the song this persons make up needs to be very strong but simple so that if you look at the face for a long time it wont get boring however I don't want the make up to be too extreme as the idea that is on my head doesnt involve a ton of extreme costumes it needs to be simple but strong.

In the song 'the one that got away' Katy Perry shows the type of make up I am looking for just a simple face with mostly black make up to make her look tough and not girly. Also for the costumes I was thnking for the boy a pair of blue chinos and a white shirt in buttoned from the top and the girl a black/white dress so that when the powder paint gets thrown on her it will have a better effect.

7) Things to consider - Lighting

Lighting is very important in any kind of music video as it is the main thing people look out for however in electronic dance genre club scenes are a popular within this and lighting is the main aspect in a club scene. Watch this video below to get a better idea:

I really like this video as its main aspect is the white light in the background this is really something I would like to include into my music video  by using fairly lights and tube lights to make my music video more exiting. I am also thinking of perhaps using mainly white lighting to make certain part of my video mostly black and white with black lighting. I really like the way Adele uses the fact of white powder and light in the scene of her rolling in the deep shown bellow:

I am thinking about using the same white lighting and powder being thrown around during the main sections of my music video as I think it is easy to achieve with the space and the things I have and its a really good effect to create the party environment.

7) Things to consider - Dance

As my music track is within the electronic dance genre, dance is definitely going to be a very important aspect within my music video. This is because of several reasons one of them being that most Electronic dance music videos include club/dance scenes within their videos and it is definitely and aspect I am thinking of including into my video. This video bellow is thriller:

Thriller was MTV's first world premiere video. Voted as the most influential pop music video of all time. Not only was it a great video this music video was the first time people had done coordinated dancing and the ''thriller move'' is now one of the most popular moves and often copied by other big artists like Lady Gaga in most of her music videos.

I really like the aspect of a group dance especially with a dark background and one main character standing out from the group. Dancing is very important and must be done perfectly and choreographed well otherwise the video could end up looking very unprofessional.
